Q: What's the best part of working at Refactr?
A: It's a fun and challenging environment with a smart group of people. There's a wide variety of projects going on so there's always something new to learn.

Q: Why did you choose your current profession?
A: I'm a naturally inquisitive person who enjoys learning about and solving new problems. I've also always been good with computers so it was a natural choice to combine the two to help other solve their problems with my computer skills.

Q: What's been your proudest achievement at the Refactr?
A: Being hired and starting a new external project on my first day. My position with Refactr is different than every previous job I've had so I was proud of my ability transition seamlessly, and I was proud that the Refactr team trusted me and my skills enough to start me on an external project right away.

Q: How have agile methods changed how you get work done?
A: I like that agile methods promote a tighter feedback loop between the development team and the stakeholders. You can't truly deliver what the client needs without regular communication. Agile methods allow you to make progress despite uncertain requirements because you're only tackling things one small piece at a time.

Q: What profession, other than your own, would you like to attempt?
A: That's easy: I'm an avid home brewer so if I wasn't a software developer, I'd be working in a brewery.

Q: What did you catch onto (early adopt) before your friends?
A: Netflix. I've been a customer for a long time and have converted many of my friends and family over the years.

Q: What was your best subject in school and why?
A: I don't know if it was my best subject but my favorite was chemistry. It's where I met my wife.
